2 killed, 3 injured in Warsoo Kupwara

Srinagar: Two civilians were killed and three others were injured when they came under a police vehicle which overturned in Warsoo area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late Friday evening.

SP Kupwara, Abdul Jabbar told GNS that a police team had gone to control a group clash at Warsoo in Kupwara town of the frontier district when its vehicle (Rakshak) overturned, injuring five civilians.

Two of them later succumbed to injuries en-route to Sub District Hospital Kupwara, the official said.

The deceased have been identified as Abdul Rasheed Ganie son of Mohammad Sultan of Warsoo, Abdul Rashid Bagad son of Noor-ud-Din, also a resident of Warsoo.

The injured admitted to hospital include Kaisair Ahmad Bagad, Altaf Ahmad, Fazil Ahmad and two constables—Nasir Ahmad and Mushtaq Ahmad.

However, an eyewitness told GNS that there were stone pelting clashes between PDP and Peoples Conference workers that erupted after PDP won parliamentary elections in the Valley. Later reached the spot and the activists’ pelted stones at it and in the melee driver of the Police vehicle lost control and he ran over the activists resulting in death of 2 persons and injuring at least 5 persons.

The slain persons as well as the injured are said to be the activists of PDP.

Meanwhile, another civilian Mohammad Shafi, stated to be an NC worker was critically injured in a report group clash at Kalaroos in the frontier district. (GNS)
