7 militants killed in Lolab encounter: Army

Srinagar: Army on Monday claimed to have killed seven militants in an encounter at Lolab forests in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, official sources told GNS Monday.
Army’s 18 RR laid a cordon around the Madkulla Behak forests of Dardpora village in Lolab after receiving specific information over the presence of militants in the woods. When the joint team started coming operations, the militants hiding in the dense forests opened heavy fire upon them.
“Army returned the fire triggering off a fierce gun-battle. In the encounter that continued till late evening, seven militants were killed,” sources said, adding “Additional reinforcements of 28 RR and SOG Takipora were sent to the forests after the encounter raged,”
Meanwhile, Srinagar based defence spokesperson told GNS that army’s patrol was fired upon by a group of militants in the forest area; the fire was retaliated by effective firing resulting in killing of 7 unidenitified militants. “A huge cache of arms and other war like stores have been recovered from the site”, he said, adding the operation is still in progress as three more militants are still under trap.
