Al- Qaeda emergence in valley a baseless threat: Prof Bhat

Said religious extremism has taken political shape in India

Srinagar: Terming the reports of the emergence of Al- Qaeda and Taliban in valley ‘baseless’ and ‘irrelevant’, the senior separatist leader Professor Abdul Gani Bhat Tuesday remarked that such ‘rumors’ are spread sans any strategy and modus operandi.

Bhat, a former Huriyat Chairman  and a Muslim Conference (MC) chief told KNS that the rumors about the emergence of Al-Qaeda and Taliban in Kashmir are being spread with the intention to create political disturbance and that the same must not be taken seriously into account.

He however maintained that such reports have taken toll in the media due to which the helmsmen in India have been dominated by such reports. Cautioning that BJP led government in New Delhi must not fan the communal fires in India or else it would prove ‘disastrous’ for the entire region, Bhat stated that the slogans of ‘Hindutva, Hindi or Hindustan’ would trigger communal tensions and through the same, the death and destruction will become inevitable.

“Now the religious extremism has taken political shape in India and it remains to be seen how the situation would turn up. Also there are two important developments going on in the sub- continent at present. One is the strikes going on against extremists in Pakistan and another one is the religious extremism masquerading as the political force in India,” said Professor Bhat, an executive member of Huriyat Conference (M).

He maintained that both the Countries must come closer to end Kashmir crises for the greater common good of the sub-continent inhabitants as this Himaliyan region has become the bone of contention between India and Pakistan. “What good can the trade deliver between the two countries when there are serious dispute pending and unresolved. I believe that India and Pakistan should resolve Kashmir at an earliest as the inordinate delay would prove disastrous.”
