Board exams: 90% students collect admit cards in Valley

Srinagar: Class X and XII students are gearing up for the annual exams which will begin next week amid security.A senior member of the Private Schools’ Union said around 90 per cent of the students had collected their admit cards. “We were waiting to know the students’ response. More than 90 per cent of Class X and XII students are appearing in the exams this month,” the member said on condition of anonymity. Meanwhile, security agencies have also taken special measures to facilitate the smooth conduct of the exams. As separatist leaders have given a Lal Chowk chalo call the day the exams begin, the police officer said no one would be allowed to disrupt the exams. The last two months saw protests from students who were demanding postponement of exams but after the government left it to the students to either appear in the exam in November or March, the protests died down.“Earlier, I wanted the exam should be deferred till March but now when the government has given us two options, my parents have finally convinced me to appear for the exam on November 14,” says Uzair Ahmad, a Class XII student. The students of Class X and XII could not attend classes since the unrest began on July 9 in the Valley. “If I appear in the exam now, I will be able to complete the rest of my syllabus for the competitive exams which are held in March-April. The March exams have a disadvantage because the results will be delayed,” says Tanzeel Khan, a student. The exams, after much controversy, will begin on November 14 for Class XII and on November 15 for Class X. (TNS)
