Roads turned into cesspools, streets inundated

Srinagar: With the incessant rains lasing valley since Thursday Morning, the roads of the summer capital turned into cesspools with the heavy traffic jam in Lal Chowk giving tough time people at large.

According to the KNS correspondent, the roads of the city centre turned into flood channels with huge chunk of rain water floating on the streets. People from the various areas of Srinagar Thursday stated that the drainage system of their respective completely fail once rains occur in the city. “It is a hell out there. Our children are not even able to move out of their homes. The lanes here have changed into streams with no effort to take remedial measures,” said Muneer Akhtar, a Lal Bazar resident. He maintained further that they several times approached their concerned MLA Peer Afaq Ahmad but he never pays any heed to the requests of the people of his area. “He knows that he will lose. He just managed these years with our roads in deteriorated condition,” said a delegation from Bota Shah Mohalla of Lal Bazar area.

Meanwhile reports also maintained that massive traffic jams Thursday erupted in several of Lal Chowk and erstwhile including Dalgate, Batamalo, Hari Singh High Street, MA road besides others. With traffic signals off, the checkpoints created at various points created further chaos on the city roads with the vehicles making long queues to get passed.
