Srinagar: National Conference Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal has demanded the immediate scientific sanitization of areas falling within and around the Toisa Maidan Artillery Range to prevent any loss of life and property in the area.
According to a statement issued to KNS, Dr. Kamal visited the residence of the young child who lost her life due to the explosion of an unexploded artillery shell in Drung Lassipora to express sympathy and condolence with the bereaved family. While visiting the home of Riyaz Ahmed Parray today, Dr. Kamal also expressed grief and shock at the fact that the deceased girl’s brother has also suffered serious injuries in the accident.
Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, Dr. Kamal asked the government to give ex-gratia relief to the family and provide suitable compensation to pay for any medical needs and procedures. Dr. Kamal on this occasion expressed solidarity with the demand of the locals to be relocated or assured of their safety and also sought that details of money provided by the Army to the District Administration to sanitize the area be disclosed and investigated.
Dr. Kamal said that Tourism was a vital sector of our economy and Toisa Maidan had great tourism potential that could be exploited to provide jobs and succor to the inhabitants of the area. Dr. Kamal said that the Artillery Range affects crop production, livestock avenues and fruit cultivation in the area – adversely affecting the day-to-day lives of the inhabitants. Since government jobs cannot be provided to every citizen, it is imperative that efforts are redoubled to clear these huge treasures of human sustenance of all encumbrances including the presence of security forces without loss of any more time.
Dr. Kamal also visited the residence of party senior worker Hashmat Ullah Khan of Chak Magray Panzoo, Khaag to express his condolences on the death of his young son recently. Dr. Kamal expressed solidarity on behalf of National Conference and prayed for peace to the departed soul. Dr. Kamal was accompanied by Advocate Mohammad Shafi Shaheen, Ghulam Nabi Bhat, Block President Sukhnag Ghulam Nabi Magray and Abdul Kabir.
