Srinagar: Inspector General of Police, Mr. A.G. Mir in presence of Director Tourism Kashmir, Mr. Talat Aziz today flagged off the Sports Triathlon comprising cycling, mountaineering and swimming from Makai Park, Bouleverd road Srinagar. The event is part of the 9-Day Kashmir Summer Festival.
The Triathlon was sponsored by the Tourism Department Kashmir and organized by the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM) Gulmarag Kashmir. Teams from different schools of the Valley participated in the event.
Later, the IGP also flagged off the boat race events at SKICC, Srinagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Mir highlighting the importance of sports events for the physical and mental development of the youth added that such events provide a competitive environment for the youth to showcase their talent. He said more and more sports events should be held covering various events and activities to encourage maximum participation of youth. Later medals and mementos were distributed among the participating teams. Among others Director, IISM, Gulmarg Kashmir, Col. J.S. Dillon, senior officers of the Tourism Department and various school children were present on the occasion.
