Man escapes from custody in north Kashmir

Srinagar: A man, who was arrested last month in a militancy-related case, Friday escaped custody in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Bashir Ahmad Beigh, a resident of Chandoosa, escaped from the local police station this afternoon, sources told GNS. Beigh, police said, was taken into custody in connection with militancy related activities in case FIR no. 2 & (/2014 under section 384, 457 RPC. “Beigh was also accused in case FIR no. 7/25 IA Act in police station Parimpora, Srinagar”. Police sources said Beigh was arrested with a pistol on the outskirts of summer capital Srinagar and was facing detention.
Sources told GNS that following the escape police started raids late this evening at various locations in the district. Talking to the GNS, a police official said that the department has initiated an inquiry into his escape.
