Mirwaiz appeals people for peaceful protest, strike on May 7

Expresses concern on ill treatment with Kashmiri students in Noida

Srinagar: Stressing upon the people of north Kashmir to reject the so-called polls and show complete commitment and resolve towards freedom struggle, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house arrest, has appealed people to observe peaceful protest strike on May 7- the day staged polls are going to conducted in north Kashmir. The meeting of Hurriyat Executive Council was scheduled to be held today had got to be postponed due to the continuous house arrest of APHC Chairman.

According to a statement issued to KNS, while condemning the arrest and detention of Hurriyat leaders, hundreds of youth from central and south Kashmir of scores of youth and resistance leaders and activists from north Kashmir, Mirwaiz said the state authorities were resorting vindictive tactics. He said after South and Central Kashmir, people of north Kashmir were subjected to suppression and arrests.

Expressing concern over the ill treatment met by the Kashmiri students in Noida, Delhi, Mirwaiz stated that Kashmiri students and traders are not secure and have always been targeted by the communal elements in India. He stated that the security of Kashmiri students and traders outside the state was the responsibility of Government of India.

Condemning the slapping of PSA on Wasim Ahmad Sofi of Pulwama, Mirwaiz termed it as a cheap tactics based on retribution. He stated that black laws were imposed in Kashmir to suppress the freedom struggle and to weaken the sentiment for movement.

Mirwaiz also expressed concern over the massacre of Assamese Muslims on communal lines. He stated that government of India should take steps to ensure the security of minority Muslim community in Assam. He said the massacre of Muslim belies the claim of so called apostles of democracy in India that minorities were safe in the “secular state”.

Meaanwhile, hurriyat spokesman has condemned the house arrest of APHC Chairman and senior leader Zaffar Akbar Bhat, and arrest of other Hurriyat leaders including Engineer Hilal Ahmad War, Hakim Abdul Rashid, Jameel Ahmad War, Sajad Noorabadi, Roman Dar and other youth and resistance leaders lodged in different Police Stations. (KNS)
