Murder of Tahir Sofi glaring example ‘oppressive behavior of India’: Malik

Pays tributes to his friend advocate Syed Sarwar Hussain

Srinagar: “Massacre of young Kashmiris and to divert attention of people protest on these killings by announcing probes and commissions has been an old deceptive practice of rulers to safeguard their forces and agencies. Cold blooded murder of young scholar Tahir Rasool Sofi of Baramulla in 2013 and announcement of a magisterial inquiry and now harassment of those who appeared as witness before the commission is another glaring example of this deception and oppressive behavior of India and its Kashmiri puppets,” this was stated by the chairman of JKLF Mohammad Yasin Malik while speaking to delegation from Baramullah that met him today at Maqbool Manzil in this connection.

According to a statement issued to KNS, delegation apprised Malik about the happenings in martyr Tahir Sofi’s case and said that after cold blooded murder of Tahir Rasool Sofi rulers succumbed before a peoples protest and announced a magisterial inquiry into the killing. Government asked witnesses to stand before the commission and five people who are eye witness to this incident presented themselves before the said commission.

“After their testimony these five people faced wrath of police and other forces. Their houses were raided and two of them namely Javed Hussain Najar and Zubair Bashir Bhat have been arrested and charges of stone pelting have been leveled against them. Three others are also being continuously harassed. This all is being done to make sure that nobody stands a witness against the brutal forces who killed Tahir Rasool Sofi. Speaking on the occasion JKLF chief Yasin Malik said that this has been an old gimmick and deceptive practice of Indian rulers and their Kashmiri puppets to announce enquiries and commissions and hush up the cold blooded Murders and other human rights violations by Indian forces. From 2008 to 2011 and 2013 hundreds were killed by Indian forces and police and after massive protests rulers announced enquiries but till date no one has been booked or penalized for his criminal act. Instead of booking the killers in uniform, police and authorities made the lives of those who protested against these killings hell by arresting them under black laws. Yasin said that after the killing of scholar Tahir Rasool Sofi in 2013 all pro-India parties including those in power condemned the act of forces and asked for punishment to killers but today after about one and a half years the people who testified before the magisterial commission are being penalized for speaking truth and efforts to punish these innocents are on. Yasin sahib while condemning the dirty tactics of rulers, their forces and police appealed all human rights groups and freedom lovers to enhance their efforts and safeguard these witnesses from the wrath of Indian police and forces.”

Meanwhile JKLF chairman Mohammad Yaseen Malik has paid rich tributes to his friend and one of the pioneers of the struggle in Poonch, Late Syed Sarwar Hussain advocate of Suran Kot Poonch. While remembering the struggle and sacrifices of late Sarwar sahib, Yasin Malik termed him as a sincere leader who fought for the independence of Jammu Kashmir for whole life. Yasin sahib said that Syed Sarwar Marhoom’s sacrifices will be always remembered and the movement started and led by people like him will be taken to its logical end.
