NC-Cong likely to fight upcoming elections jointly

Srinagar: The two mainstream parties including National Conference (NC) and state Congress are mulling to contest the upcoming parliamentary as well as assembly elections jointly in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources privy to the development told KNO that both the deliberations between the two parties are going on at present and the parties are likely joining their hands to fight the upcoming elections mutually.Earlier in 2014, the two parties NC and Congress also contested the assembly polls jointly but couldn’t manage to secure sufficient seats to form the government in the State. NC candidates emerged winner from 15 constituencies while Congress candidates bagged only 12 seats.

The NC and the Congress had also entered into a seat-sharing arrangement for the 2017 by-polls to put up a united fight against the then PDP-BJP bonhomie in the State. However, the two parties are yet again joining their hands to fight unitedly in the upcoming elections to secure a good number of seats here in both parliamentary and assembly elections, reliable sources said, adding that the deliberations are going on and there is every possibility of going together in the next polls. If sources are to be believed, the top leaders of the two mainstream parties have also met to hold deliberations in this regard. However, the party leaders when asked about the development didn’t confirm, saying that elections have not been announced so far and any decision in this regard will come in the public domain at apt time.(KNO)
