New Delhi, May 17, 2025 – Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in India’s Lok Sabha, has sharply criticized External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar over a controversial statement allegedly admitting that India informed Pakistan prior to conducting military strikes. Gandhi labeled such an action as a “crime” and demanded to know who authorized Jaishankar to share this information.

In a series of posts on the social media platform X, Gandhi shared a viral video clip from Friday, in which Jaishankar is purportedly heard claiming success in attacks against Pakistan. In the clip, Jaishankar allegedly states, “We informed the Pakistani government that we were coming to target terrorist hideouts, and our aim was not to target their military, so they had the option to not intervene. However, they did not accept this.”

Gandhi’s remarks come after India’s Press Information Bureau (PIB), the government’s fact-checking agency, issued a statement denying the authenticity of Jaishankar’s attributed remarks. The PIB clarified that the Foreign Minister’s statement had been “distorted and presented out of context.”

Undeterred, Gandhi posed two pointed questions to the government via X: “The Foreign Minister must clarify who gave him permission to do this, and how many of our Air Force planes were lost due to this announcement?” He further asserted that informing Pakistan before launching an attack falls under the category of a criminal act, adding, “The Foreign Minister is openly admitting that the Indian government did this.”

The controversy has sparked heated debate, with Gandhi’s accusations amplifying tensions over India’s national security policies and diplomatic protocols. The government has yet to issue a direct response to Gandhi’s latest demands for accountability.
