Organizes grand commemorative meeting, highlights contributions of both leaders
Srinagar: Senior National Conference Leader, MLA Khanyar and Cabinet Minister for Rural Development Haji Ali Mohammad Sagar organized a grand commemorative meeting to pay tributes to Shaheed Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq at his residence in Srinagar today. The meeting was attended by senior citizens of Shaher-e-Khaas, various religious leaders and Imaams from Srinagar and senior party workers and activists.
Speaking on the occasion, Sagar said that Shaheed Mirwaiz was a tall and visionary religious scholar and political leader who was bestowed with academic scholarship, spirituality and political insight and was a staunch advocate of Muslim unity in the State. Sagar said that National Conference organized this commemorative meeting to pay tribute to Shaheed Mirwaiz every year and the party has always respected Shaheed Mirwaiz Molvi Mohammad Farooq as a visionary personality and religious luminary and scholar.
Sagar said the ‘Double Farooq’ Accord was a historic decision to end all hostilities and animosity between supporters of National Conference and supporters of the Mirwaiz family.
Speaking on the occasion Sagar said “Mirwaiz Farooq always kept the flock together as he wanted people to maintain unity and refrain from unnecessary rifts and extended full support to NC President Dr Farooq Abdullah through the double-Farooq accord in 1987. Besides, he ended hatred between the two factions once for all.”
Sagar added that Shaheed Mirwaiz Farooq’s assassination during the tenure of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as the Home Minister of India was a painful wound in the hearts of Kashmiris. “What was even more sorrowful is that Shaheed Mirwaiz Farooq was denied security by Mufti Sayeed as the then Home Minister of India. Adding more sorrow to the tragic assassination was the fact that troops were ordered to open fire on the funeral procession of Shaheed Mirwaiz Molvi Farooq resulting in the martyrdom of 73 innocent Kashmiris. The entire nation, above and beyond political and partisan lines remembers that day as a day of enormous sorrow and grief,” Sagar said.
Speaking on the occasion Sagar said that we should all be conscious of nefarious designs to dilute Article 370 and harm the special status of the State, especially in light of BJP coming to power in New Delhi. Sagar said that any efforts to do away with the Muslim Personal Law or to dilute Article 370 would prove detrimental to the integrity and peace of the nation.
