Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference students Union (JKNCSU) condemns the act of disrespect and ill-treatment meted out to Prof. Khurshid Iqbal Andrabi, Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir near Udhampur.

In a Statement Issued To Kashmir Today JKNCSU Provincial President, Kashmir Imran Pandit Said such incidents as an act of publicity stunt and a grave violation of law. He said, “If the police officer was really concerned about the law then as per guidelines, as a law enforcement officer he should have ceased the vehicle, handed over a chalan to the driver of the vehicle and then keeping in view the security aspect of Honourable VC who is head of the highest seat of learning in the state, the officer on duty should have made alternate arrangements for him rather than making a video and keeping him stranded for half an hour on Srinagar Jammu National highway near Udampur”.

Due to the current phase of turbulence in the valley government officials have faced the wrath of the people on various occasions and when PSA is justified, why can’t tint on the vehicle of a person who has earlier preferred not to avail security be justified as such, Pandit added.

Pandit is concerned that police officers like him are a threat to the society and will create division, disharmony and moreover will provoke other officers to follow his ideology of publicity than maintaining the law and order in the state, which is currently limping back to normalcy after turmoil of more than 4 months. The officer looks fully prepared for the publicity act as whole act has been filmed properly and immediately posted on the social media. Police officer add more to its brazen act by sharing his staged act on social media and is bound to tender an apology without much delay.

While academicians across the globe are awarded and honoured with highest respect, it is disheartening that the head of state’s prestigious university has been insulted and disrespected. J&K National Conference Students Union wants time bound probe in the matter and demand immediate action against the erring cop without any delay.
