Srinagar: All is not well in the BJP as four leaders and workers have resigned from the party in north Kashmir for the last six days.
This comes after a BJP youth leader along with his father and brother were killed in Bandipora.
A social activist from Handwara, Mubeena Bano, who had joined BJP a few months before, Thursday resigned from the party.
“I have been working to redress issues of people since 2015. I had joined BJP to resolve the issues of people. But nothing is being done on the ground so I resigned from the BJP,” she told news agency Kashmir Indepth News Service (KINS).
Similarly, Bashir Ahmad Malik son of Mohammad Subhan Malik of Thokerpora Handwara who was part of the BJP also announced his resignation from the party on Thursday.
“I am the sole bread earner in my family and my children were facing problems. We were told they will arrange accommodation for us but nothing has been done. So I resigned from the BJP,” he told KINS.
Earlier, two youth leaders of the Bhartiya Janta Party from north Kashmir resigned.
On Saturday, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) president from Baramulla, Marouf Bhat tendered his resignation from the party.
“I hereby resign from the BJYM as a member and any post I held as part of it. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to work for the party,” Bhat said.
He was quoted by a national newspaper saying, “We can sacrifice our lives for the nation, but not of our children. I have been attacked twice in the past, yet nothing has been done about it. I have not been given even a single personal security officer.”
While on Tuesday, BJP Vice President for Kupwara Asif Ahmad also resigned from the party.
“I am from a well off family. I did not join BJP to make money but to work for my people. But we are not allowed to work by officials. BJP has no value on the ground. Officials are not bothered to listen to us and address issues of people,” he said.
BJP General Secretary Ashok Koul however claimed that some people had joined the party for vested interest.
“Some people (who are resigning) had come from other parties and joined the BJP. They are seeking favours from officials. But officials are doing work for the welfare of people,” Koul told KINS.
A BJP leader Mehraj ud Din Malla, who was reportedly “abducted” on Wednesday morning returned home in the evening. Before that a youth BJP leader Waseem Bari along with his father and brother were killed outside their home in Bandipora.(KINS)
